The Futura ForeFoot Arthroplasty products utilize UltraSIL, a fourth generation silicone polymer, which has higher tensile strength, tear and abrasion resistance than the competitors’ silicone offerings. Each implant is designed for the individual biomechanics of the specific joint and allow for the maximum amount of pain free range of motion. Additionally the instrumentation is simple, straight forward to ensure reproducibility of the procedure.

Futura™ Primus Flexible Great Toe (FGT)

The Futura™ Primus Flexible Great Toe (model FGT) is a third generation implant for supplementation of first metatarsophalangeal joint arthroplasty. The implant is constructed from ULTRASIL® medical grade silicone elastomer and includes titanium grommets.

The first double-stemmed implant.

The Primus is the first double-stemmed implant designed specially for the unique geometry of the first metatarsophalangeal joint. With its dorsal-offset metatarsal aspect, the Primus matches the anatomic position of the proximal phalanx relative to the metatarsal.

  • The patented axial offset hinge design reduces stress on the prosthesis and improves biomechanical function.
  • The inferior aspect of the distal hinge buttress is angled to minimize interference with the flexor hallucis brevis attachment site and the sesamoid apparatus.
  • A highly engineered hinge offers 95 degree range of motion and prevents the grommets from contacting each other.
  • The trapezoidal stem cross section matches the anatomy of the intramedullary canal.
  • Angled proximal stem corresponds with natural metatarsal declination angle.

Futura™ Classic Flexible Great Toe (CGT)

The Classic Flexible Great Toe implant is a third generation prosthesis designed to supplement first metatarsophalangeal joint arthroplasty. Constructed from ULTRASIL® medical grade silicone elastomer, the Classic offers Futura’s patented axial offset hinge and other advanced design features while maintaining the surgical technique of the previous generation joint replacements.

Instrumentation is also simplified with only a trapezoidal and rectangular broach necessary to prepare the intramedullary canals.

Futura™ Lesser Metatarsal Phalangeal (LMP)

The Futura Lesser Metatarsal Phalangeal Joint Implant is the first prosthesis designed specifically to supplement lesser metatarsal phalangeal joint arthroplasty. Constructed of ULTRASIL® medical grade silicone elastomer, the implant features stems designed to fit the intramedullary canals of the proximal phalanx and the lesser metatarsal. The LMP is offered in four sizes and is supported by a custom instrumentation set.

Futura™ Metal Hemi Toe (MHT)

The Metal Hemi Toe (Model MHT) is a single stemmed resurfacing prosthesis for the first proximal phalanx designed to supplement first metatarsal phalangeal joint arthroplasty. The implant is manufactured from cobalt chrome to provide a wear resistant articular surface. A section of the intramedullary stem and the surface contacting the resected base of the proximal phalanx are coated with a titanium plasma spray to encourage osseous integration.

The implant is manufactured in three sizes and is supported with a simple, custom designed instrumentation set.

  • Trapezoidal articular surface matches the geometry of the resected base of the proximal phalanx and is anatomically congruent to the metatarsal head.
  • The thin plantar aspect of the articular surface allows for preservation of the flexor hallucis brevis attachment site with up to 3mm of joint decompression.
  • A short, trapezoidal stem provides a better anatomic fit in the intramedullary canal, with an angulation to help protect the plantar cortex.
  • The dorsal aspect of the implant is rounded to reduce impingement on the metatarsal head.
  • The stem is designed to facilitate revision to a Primus UltraSil implant.
